Captain Capital And Full Stop
We have had some helpers in our room.
Their names are Captain Capital And Full Stop.
Captain Capital stands at the beginning of every
sentence to tell the first letter to be a capital letter.
Full Stop stands at the end saying "That's the end
of the sentence. You need to use a full stop!"
This is how it looks in our writing -
(It's a bit messy but we are learning at the same time!)
We like colourful porcupines!
Last week we read a poem about a porcupine.
Of course, we had to find out some more about porcupines. Then we drew our own colourful porcupines, using pastels and dye.
These are some things we learnt.
We learnt that porcupines have spikes called quills- Rosie.
You would see them at night time - Alex.

This is a new app that we can use. Next time we will check our spelling before we publish it!

Predicting when you are reading!
A strategy that we use when we are reading, is to look at the front cover and think about what the book will be about. Sometimes we are right and sometimes we are wrong. That doesn't matter because we have started to think about the story and we want to keep reading until the end.
Sophie knows about goats and she looked at the front cover. We thought it might be about a mean little goat but it wasn't!
Snap! Splash! Reading activity
One of our reading groups made play dough crabs. They worked very hard to make them realistic.
Hannah did some publishing with her crab on an iPad app. Hannah cropped her photo, added the words and changed the background.

Junior Team Athletics Day
Friday morning was our athletics day. It was a fine day so we all had our drink bottles and hats ready for action! Mrs Scott was really impressed with our running and jumping and throwing because we all tried our hardest. Lots of parents came to watch us and some of them ran in the parents, teachers, and house captains relay race. It was a fun morning especially the obstacle race. We are very lucky that Dianne from Project Energize helps us out by letting us use some of her equipment. Thanks Miss McLay-Boyd for organising our athletics sports.

Room 2's assembly
We hope you enjoyed our assembly.
If you missed it, these are the two aerobics routines we did.
click here Im gonna catch you
This was our favourite aerobics routine.
Sorry the video is a bit shaky - If it stops halfway through, just move it futher along and it will play again!

We showed this slideshow of how we practise managing ourselves every morning. The second part shows some of the elearning we do in Room 2.
The KC song was written and sung by a Vardon School teacher (Nicole Miller) a few years ago when KC was first invented. Listen carefully to the words and you will hear things you need to do to be a KC kid!

Working with Mr Freke
Today Room 2 made a video on a new app that we have on the iPad. So that we could all learn how to use it, we made a class video about rubbish.
After lunch Mr Freke came to teach us while Mrs Scott had a meeting. We learnt about patterns and Mr Freke had a pattern on his tie. We decided to make a tie with a pattern for ourselves. Guess what happened next? Well, we were dressed for work, so we had a business meeting with Mr Freke!
(Some of us made hairbands and wrist or ankle bands.)

The Gingerbread Man
Room 2 read the big book called "The Gingerbread Man"
We found lots of stories of the Gingerbread Man and they
were a little bit different, but a lot the same! We had fun
making our own gingerbread men because they could stand
up and it looks like they are all having a race!

New Milk Monitors
We have got new milk monitors this term.
It is a responsible job because the cartons
have to be taken to the recycling bin!
The new monitors are Emily and Kobe.

Jasmine's story
Jasmine read us a story that she wrote at home.
Good work Jasmine! We can all do reading writing and maths at home too.

Term 4 in Room 2
It is Term 4. It is nearly our assembly (in week 4) and we are thinking about what we might do!
We are excited and we are going to practise things to do on the stage!
It is a secret so we won't be telling you, you need to come and see for yourself.

Oh dear, the Cup belongs to Oracle
We didn't win the America's Cup but we did our reading about the race and we practised
saying it out loud. We had to remember our words
and use expression!

Do you like the photo of our finished fans?

Footsteps Dance Company
Kate from the Footsteps Dance Company came to Vardon School and taught the Junior Team a dance. It only took 20 minutes to learn the dance and the children worked very hard following instructions and keeping in time with the music!
Vardon School Disco
Some of the Junior Syndicate children went to the disco. Sorry to those who did not know in time to get their tickets but there will be another disco next term!

Showing our learning on the iPad.
Hannah made an octopus before school and she wrote a story about it. It is a very happy octopus Hannah!
Sophie has been doing some adding on the iPad. She had to roll the dice, get the right number of bears and add them together. The hardest part was doing the numbers and symbols on the iPad!
Jasmine did some maths on the iPad as well. Great work, I can see a small photo inside a big photo!
Some more maths by Rome.
Room 2 KC kids like to try new things so they love to have the iPad to use in class.
Sequence writing
We have been working with a partner to write a sequence story. We had 6 photos from Swim Safe that we put in order. Then we wrote a caption or sentence about each photo. It was fun writing a story together.

They made some paper bag
raccoon puppets.
They copied the colours
from the pictures in the book.

The Same or Different?
We have been thinking and talking about how people are unique. That means they are special in their own way. We have also talked about how people are the same and how they are different.
Our "What if?" question today was - "What if everyone in the world looked the same?"
Yes, Rome and Cooper, your parents would be very confused! We decided that we were glad that we all look different!

Milk in Schools.
We have been having Milk in Schools for a while now and we have a good routine to follow so that it doesn't take up too much of our learning time.![]() |
When we have finished drinking our milk, we have to fold the carton down for recycling. |
![]() | ||
When we first had milk, it was hard to fold the carton but we are getting better every day! Some children can fold the carton in 19 seconds!
|

Back in the classroom, we clean up any spilt milk on the tables and get on with our learning. |
Reflecting on Reading

I wonder what the other reading groups can share?

Daily 5
We are trying some new learning at reading time. We have to be very focused and make good choices! We have to do alphabet and word activities, and read to a buddy. We read easy books to ourselves so we sound good when we read. We can also choose to make things, use the play dough to make letters and words, listen to stories on the listening post and do alphabet puzzles. That's lots of choices and we can't do the same activity all the time!
Look at all the letters made of play dough.
